Anti Crash Technology - Teach yourself to fly

Anti Crash Technology Diagram

Anti Crash Technology - Teach yourself to fly!

One of the most attractive features for new pilots on most Hobby Zone airplanes is known as ACT or Anti-Crash Technology. ACT is an innovative system aboard the aircraft that allows you to teach yourself to fly. It allows the new model airplane pilot to fly without any help from an instructor pilot.

How does it work?

Anti Crash Technology works with a simple set of two sensors placed on the top and bottom of the airplane. the sensors tell computer software stored in a "memory chip" in the airplane's electronics which way is up and down.

With the ACT system engaged the airplane can basically tell if it is in trouble because the pilot is over steering, or making common mistakes that new pilots make. When a problem is detected by the system it engages and disables the motor, and levels the plane out.

After the airplane recovers it returns control to the pilot and engages the motor once again. ACT works well with a few exceptions......

1. The sky and ground must have contrast. If the sky is grey or white and the ground is snow covered the ACT system will have difficulty in determining which way is up, and which way is down.

2. Your plane must have enough altitude to recover. Just like a real airplane, you need room to recover from unusual flight attitudes and situations.

Tip: Keep in mind that Anti Crash Technology does not make your airplane crash proof. It is still possible to crash into objects(including the ground) in certain situations.

My best advice for new pilots during your first few flights:

1. Fly in a HUGE area with limited objects to run into like trees, buildings, cars, or any other hard object that can cause a sudden stop.

2. Fly in low wind conditions. I have lost several airplanes flying in high winds when I knew better.

3. If your plane gets into trouble "sit on your hands" just like my flight instructor used to always tell me when I got my pilot license for real airplanes. Most airplanes will recover without any input from the pilot if you just take your hands off the controls and cut the power to the motor.
